Friant-Kern Canal Geosynthetic Liner Installation, installed by EC Applications

Friant-Kern Canal Geosynthetic Liner Installation

Visalia, California · 2023

The installation

As part of the 2018 Friant-Kern Canal Geosynthetic Supply and Installation Project in Visalia, California, EC Applications installed 160,000 square feet of 45 mil reinforced polypropylene (rPP) liner. The work was a key component of efforts to address severe canal flow restrictions caused by land subsidence from prolonged groundwater pumping, which had reduced the canal's capacity by up to 60 percent in certain areas. EC Applications supported the Friant Water Authority and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in executing a multi-phase repair plan aimed at mitigating water loss and preparing the canal for more extensive rehabilitation work. The project brought federal, state, and local agencies together against a single installation standard, on aging water infrastructure that remains in service.

This project is an example of our water reservoirs work.
