EC Applications installed both the base liner and the floating cover on a potable water reservoir just under two acres in size, a total area of geosynthetics of just less than four acres. The reservoir's previous cover was some 30 years old, had exceeded its useful design life, and was in urgent need of repair to prevent the stored drinking water from being contaminated. Carollo Engineers was the design engineer and carried out the detailed design, working with Seaman Corporation on material selection and with EC Applications on construction. Seaman's XR-PW was chosen for the primary liner system, the floating cover, and all of the appurtenances. It is one of only a few products carrying NSF approval for potable water use, and it can be seamed efficiently at the time of original installation and re-welded throughout the life of the reservoir with the same heat welds used for routine repairs.
