Las Vegas sits in the Mojave Desert, and the desert is hard on exposed geomembranes. Summer surface temperatures on a black liner run far above the air temperature, the UV load is among the highest in the country, and the daily swing between hot afternoons and cool nights works the sheet back and forth through thermal expansion cycles. Over years, that exposure oxidizes polyethylene liners until they chalk, stiffen, and crack, usually starting on south-facing slopes and at stressed details like boots, corners, and terminations.
